Spontaneous Construction with Creative Planning:
The schema sets the agenda - what schemes and modes are feasible.
- Scheme driven - the constructor has a general idea of what she wants to construct.
- Mode driven - the constructor wishes to explore certain capabilites of the schema.
- Model driven - the constructor has a very definite goal. Planning and
means are the primary challenges.
Construction toy sets are usually supplied with schemes and/or models in the form of pictures, detailed construction plans and similar. Constructors will either follow those suggestions slavishly or they will improvise.
But true spontaneous construction with creative planning seems to be largely mode driven. The furnished plans, pictures etc. give a constructor a rough guide to the various modes possible with a given schema and after that she improvises.
